Committee Members and Directors
The Committee
Daniel Jones
President |
Daniel "DJ" Jones (Will answer to most variations on this name) is a third year Psychology student. Previous ActOne adventures involved starring in Guys and Dolls and directing last years smash hit musical Hot Mikado. He's not quite sure why or how he got to become president, but is grateful nontheless. As the approachable, friendly face of the society he promises to do all he can for his subjects (sorry, members) and promises not to engage in any scandalous behaviour (well.........)

Nikki Cavill
Vice President
|
Nikki is in her third year of English Literature and her thrid year of Act One, after co-directing The Inaccurate Conception last year she felt the role of Vice President was her next vocation. Number one philosphy is to take life with a pinch of salt, a wedge of lime and a shot of tequila!!! |
| | Louise Milne
Treasurer |
|
| Hannah Dell
Secretary |
Hannah is the secretary for Act One, her only qualification being the fact that she owns a pair of glasses and once dressed up as a secretary for the Valentines party. It is her responsibility to take the minutes at comittee meetings, keep the Act One Archives up to date, and book rooms for rehearsals, aka all the dull jobs. This means that your are unlikely to ever need to talk to Hannah about her committee role, so please take pity on her and talk to her about something interesting... as long as its not technical (she is the least techie crew member in history).

Lucie Stoker
Publicity Officer |
|

|
Annabel Venn
Productions Manager |
Annabel is in her 2nd year of university, studying Education. It is also her 2nd year in Act One, having done the lighting for the Hot Mikado last year. Annabel is an enormous fan of dressing up (perhaps worryingly so), though is absolutely terrified of the stage. Instead, other hobbies include hanging from the ceiling in the dark and pressing buttons in a dark room…

Charlotte Strange
&
Lucy Fairburn
|
|
|
Charlotte is normally found in a pub. Or inbetween pubs. Or occasionally on the way to a pub. She enjoys a cold stella and a good rugby game. Charlotte's definition of a good rugby game is when the men playing have shorts that are so short as to perfectly define their formed calves and thigh muscle. Charlotte is always best avoided at times of great stress unless you approach with caution waving a very large galaxy bar/bottle of wine like a white flag. Contrary to common belief Charlotte is not a compulsive organiser, she has been told that her "hobby" is completely natural and it is only those who are too narrow-minded to appreciate it that mock her in that way. Ulltimately Charlotte likes hugs- please always give generously. |
|
Lucy is in her third year of English Literature and Act One. Previous roles have involved looking anxious in a potato sack, and singing glass-shatteringly high notes whilst wearing a dress that barely concealed the fact that she is actually a man. Lucy enjoys snogging. Mainly Charlotte. But will do anything with anyone who is kind enough to offer her a kit kat.
James Mullineux
IT Officer |
James is a Masters student with a degree in Computing. The south park image is what he used to look like, before he realised the long haired student look went out in the 80's. After being the Production Manager for a short play last year, he has a taste for it and will be returning to a back-stage near you soon.

Directors
Oliver Milburn
&
John Whittles
"Beauty & the Beasting" |
In 1972, John was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit. He promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Cardiff underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as an writer of Fortune. If you have a production, if noone else can help - and if you can find him - maybe you can hire John Whittles....

Chris Smith & James Willetts
"Wyrd Sisters" |
Chris, Astro or Smithems (please take your pick) is a third year Astrophysics student (yes that is where the imaginative ‘Astro’ Nick came from) yet hasn’t the faintest idea where this leads to, or in fact what it even is. He crewed for Hotbed Hotel in 2006/7 and decided that after mastering the responsibility of a DSM, becoming a director should be a doddle. He has a peculiar addiction to jokes, of any sort, his favourite at the moment involves a grape and a mans foot. Strangely enough you will rarely meet him at a time when he is not reading a Terry Pratchett book, the present one being 'Interesting Times' and of course 'WYRD SISTERS' James Willetts, of suspect origin was first found in 1986, wandering the sewers of Birmingham with the only words he spoke being 'Mighty Big Rats, Sir'. Since then his condition has worsened considerably. He can most often be found in his room; his apathy, lack of humanity (and obsession with his beloved Internet) mean coercion is often necessarry to make him leave home. A big Geek, the way to his heart is through a quotable knowledge of Joss Whedon's work. He enjoys Sci-Fi, Comics and walks in the country.

| Mike Beigel
&
Rufus Powell Lawrence
"The Frogs" | Mike Beigel; "I'm normally really shy but give me a pint and I’m all like 'fucking Beigel'". Habitually unconscious Beigel can be found at his keyboard, drinking, revising, or drinking and revising at his keyboard. His favorite pastimes include games such as shooey-face, canny-face, and facey-face followed by doctors. This was not written by the outrageously good looking Rufus George Canning Powell Lawrence
A Rufus; A short naturally gregarious creature that makes its home in a chinese pipe the Rufus is native to OAP bridge gatherings. Rufus' enjoy being touched but when threatened have a tendancy to implode which had directly impacted the numbers of this rare and beautiful beast.

"Pirates of Penzance" |
Get ready for some swashbuckling fun with the Broadway update of The Pirates of Penzance. This fast-paced Gilbert and Sullivan musical follows a whole comedy of errors based around an over confident party of Pirates and how one of the group falling in love causes both problems and opportunities. The story starts following Frederick a young duty obsessed Pirate who has just completed his apprenticeship as a Pirate. He leaves to return to civilisation where he quickly falls in love with Mabel, a daughter of the Major General. Frederick compelled by duty turns on his former Pirate friends telling them that they are unsuccessful pirates due to their one weakness. All being orphans, the Pirates of Penzance are famous for releasing all others who claim to be orphans, this means that all they capture claim to be without parents. The Pirate King and Frederick's former Nanny, Ruth inform Frederick that due to him being born on the 29th of February in a leap year he is, in fact, yet to complete his apprenticeship. Frederick, a slave to duty, rejoins the Pirates. The show climaxes at a showdown between the Pirates and the forces of the Major General. Just as the Pirates get the upper hand, a sharp twist in fate means that Frederick and Mabel do live happily ever after. With a variety of memorable roles, and the appeal of being all singing all dancing Pirates for the ensemble, Pirates of Penzance promises to be the most enjoyable Act One experience of the year. Through combining a number of catchy songs along with some intense sword fighting and plenty of social drinking this show is guaranteed to provide you with an experience you will find nowhere else!
Rob considers himself to be a bit of party animal, constantly being found ripping up dance floors all over Cardiff. This is Rob's second year in Act One after having an amazing time being a Gentleman of Japan in The Hot Mikado. Having always performed in Musical Theatre Rob is excited about changing roles and becoming a Director in Pirates of Penzance. Rob is now a second year philosophy student, so when not thinking about the meaning of life he likes to ensure all are happy, having fun and often drunk.
